With great fanfare and elite media sympathy, Jose Antonio Vargas publicly declared himself an "undocumented immigrant" this week. "Undocumented" my you-know-what. In the felony-friendly pages of The New York Crimes -- er, Times -- the Pulitzer Prize-winning journalist turned illegal-alien activist spilled the beans on all the illegal IDs he amassed over the years. He had documents coming out of his ears.
        
The Times featured full-color photos of Vargas' fake document trove -- including a fake passport with a fake name, a fake green card and a Social Security card his grandfather doctored for him at a Kinko's. He committed perjury repeatedly on federal I-9 employment eligibility forms. In 2002, while pursuing his journalism career goals, an immigration lawyer told him he needed to accept the consequences of his law-breaking and return to his native Philippines.
        
Following the rules would have meant a 10-year bar to reentry into America. Making false claims of citizenship is a felony offense. Document fraud is a felony offense.

A Valley high school track coach was deported Tuesday after officials said he was living in the country illegally for more than two decades.

Officials said Miguel Aparicio came to the United States illegally with his grandmother more than 20 years ago, when Miguel was just 15. Since then, he has worked as an electrician and was also a volunteer cross-country coach at Alhambra High School, where he helped lead the team to several state titles.

“I don’t know if I’d be in college right now if it wasn’t for him,” said Jose Ramirez, who knew Aparicio.

Aparicio was taken into custody early Tuesday morning. His lawyer....

A pilot program in the San Diego County town of Escondido could be a sign of things to come—two agents of the Immigration & Customs Enforcement agency have been working out of the Escondido police department for the past several months, joining in standard police stops that involved suspected illegal immigrants. If any suspected illegal immigrants are detained during the regular work of Escondido police, from traffic stops to gang sweeps, ICE agents quickly get involved to determine if the suspect has a criminal background or a pending deportation order.

A few months ago, Sen. Harry Reid (D-NV) said publicly that the claim that illegal aliens are working construction jobs in Nevada (17 percent of those jobs) is "absolutely without foundation."
However, on Tuesday, The Pew Hispanic Center released a report which shows that illegal aliens make up 10 percent of Nevada's workforce. That is up from 2009, when illegal aliens accounted for 9.4 percent of those working in the state.
It is no coincidence that Nevada also has the nation's highest rate of unemployment. According to the U.S. Department of Labor, the state's unemployment rate is now 14.5 percent.
Of course, Nevada is not the only state in which U.S. workers are being replaced illegal aliens.
In 2007, the Fiscal Policy Institute released a study revealing that there were 374,000 illegal aliens employed in New York City, accounting for 10 percent of the city's total workforce.

A few days before Thanksgiving, I went to a Mexican store in Provo. I noticed business was slow and asked the manager if he had an idea why. He replied, "I don't really know why but people stopped coming," and then added, "It almost feels like people are afraid to go out and buy things."

He said business dropped off three to four months ago. I asked him if he thought it had anything to do with the unauthorized release last summer of 1,200 names of purportedly illegal immigrants receiving government assistance.

"Yes! That must be the reason why," he said. "People used to come and cash their food stamps. This was great business for me. Now, many have lost their entitlements from the state and this has affected my business, too."

The man explained how some of the people who frequented his store would tell him how they beat the system.

It's not hard to tell Arturo Morales-LLan is proud to be an American: the evidence is plastered all over the walls of his Orem home. In a over-sized portrait hanging above the stairs, his four children, dressed in red, white and blue, stand in front of an American flag. His shelves are full of books about the Constitution. His desk is cluttered with Americana paraphernalia.

"I take my citizenship very seriously," said Morales-LLan in a rolling Spanish accent. That's why — despite his own Mexican ancestry — he has stepped up to publicly condemn illegal immigration and lend his support to Rep. Stephen Sandstrom in the quest to outfit Utah with an Arizona-style law. In collaboration with about 25 other immigrants, he recently started the lobbyist group Legal Immigrants for Immigration Law Enforcement.

In some ways, Morales-LLan is an illustration of a national trend. Hispanics are becoming increasingly divided over the issues surrounding illegal immigration, according to a recent report by the Pew Hispanic Center. In a 2007 survey, 50 percent of Hispanics said the growing number of undocumented immigrants had a positive effect on the community. In 2010, only 29 percent said the same thing.

"This issue is just as heated for Latinos as it is for the rest of the population," said Tony Yapias, director of Proyecto Latino de Utah.

Perhaps even more so.

When a Fredericksburg city councilman wanted to know where the city schools' new students were coming from--and whether they were illegal immigrants--school officials said they weren't allowed to ask if the students were here legally.
They could in the future, under a bill from Del. Todd Gilbert, R-Woodstock.

Gilbert's bill would require whomever enrolls students in schools to indicate the citizenship status of that child's parents.

The students would still be welcome at schools even if they're illegal immigrants--the law requires schools to educate all students.

But asking the question, Gilbert said, would help localities keep track of how many students are here illegally and how much it costs to educate them.

Riley Black, 8 months old, began to cry after dropping her bottle on the floorboard of the family's Nissan Altima.

Her mom Stephanie Mason was driving on Highway 41-A to visit family in Clarksville. Lorne Black, Riley's father, unbuckled his seat belt and turned around to find the bottle.

Suddenly, Mason screamed Lorne's name. A white truck veered off the road, overcorrected and came toward the car that held Black, Mason, their daughter and 2-year-old son Tristen.

"I saw the truck coming." Mason said. "I tried to go to an opening on the side of the road. I jerked the wheel. I slammed on my breaks. But I didn't make it. ... It was bad."

The truck caught fire. The driver was severely burned and Lifeflighted to Vanderbilt University Medical Center.

Black almost died. He spent 26 days in the hospital with his eye sockets crushed, 28 fractures in his skull, a shattered jaw and a split knee cap.

The driver of the truck was later identified by Immigration Customs Enforcement agents as Geremias Morales-Martines, now 31. He did not have a social security number, driver's license, registration or insurance.

He had a job, though. Morales-Martines worked at a tobacco farm in Cheatham County. It is still unknown if he had the proper documents to work there.

The Chicago City Council on Thursday turned up the heat on President Obama on the volatile issue of immigration reform that Illinois' native son promised — but so far has failed — to deliver.

Aldermen unanimously approved a resolution urging Obama to use his executive powers to call an immediate halt to deportation of undocumented workers that separate them from families that include either a U.S. citizen or a child who would be covered by the so-called "DREAM Act."

The DREAM Act would have established a path to citizenship for children of illegal immigrants, but it fell two votes short of passage in the frenzied hours before Republicans took control of the U.S. House of Representatives.

Now, aldermen want Obama to take matters into his own hands to stop a deportation policy they called "inhumane" and said is separating 1,100 families each day.

enate Majority Leader Harry Reid has pushed four different versions of the controversial immigration bill known as the DREAM Act without a hearing on any of them, drawing outrage from the top Republican on the committee that would have handled the package.
The Nevada senator, who narrowly escaped a defeat in the November election, has pursued an unusual approach to advancing the bill that gives young illegal immigrants who attend college or join the military a pathway to legal status.
Since September, his deputy Sen. Dick Durbin, D-Ill., has introduced four slightly different versions all bearing the same name. Reid has moved them all to the calendar -- he appears to be teeing up for a test vote, which could happen sometime later this week, on the latest version introduced on Tuesday.
But Republicans balked at the maneuvering. Sen. Jeff Sessions, R-Ala., ranking member on the Senate Judiciary Committee, railed against the bill and the process Democrats were using to push it.
"We now may have a fourth version of the DREAM Act," Sessions said Wednesday. "We haven't had a hearing on that in seven years."

Last week, the Department of Labor reported that unemployment in America rose to 9.8 percent. Joblessness has now topped 9.5 percent for 16 straight months, the longest stretch since the Great Depression. Yet in the 11th hour of the 111th Congress, Democrats are attempting to pass legislation that would grant amnesty to an estimated two million illegal immigrants.

The DREAM Act subsidizes education for illegal immigrants, grants them mass amnesty, encourages more illegal immigration and inevitably takes jobs from American workers. Simply put, the DREAM Act is a nightmare for the American people.

Claims that the bill only applies to 875,000 illegal immigrants are misleading. According to the Migration Policy Institute, an estimated two million illegal immigrants under the age of 35 would be eligible for amnesty under the DREAM Act. Once amnesty recipients become citizens and turn 21, they can sponsor their illegal immigrant parents for legalization. This kind of chain migration only encourages more illegal immigration, as parents will bring their children to the U.S. in hopes of receiving citizenship.

The bill also is a magnet for fraud.

Frederick County officials are lobbying Maryland lawmakers for tighter illegal immigration laws, including a proposal that would require county schools to report a head count of undocumented students.

The county's board of commissioners is forwarding the proposals to Frederick's state delegation for consideration in the upcoming legislative session.

After facing separation from his family prior to Christmas, Guatemalan-born Ramon Gonzalez-Solares, an illegal resident of the United States who has been ordered to leave the country, will celebrate the holiday with his family after all.

Jose Perez-Gonzalez, 31, broke in through the rear door of the victim's upscale Daly City home in January 2008, Chief Deputy District Attorney Steve Wagstaffe said. Perez-Gonzales believed the woman, who was 77 at the time, was not home -- and when she surprised him, he beat her severely enough to blind her, Wagstaffe said.

"This guy took her life," Wagstaffe said, adding that the woman must now live in a residential facility. "The evilness of it is dramatic."

Police arrested a man they say had a sexual relationship with an 11-year-old girl for more than a year.

23-year-old Juan Lopez Rios was charged with rape for the crime. Police also say he bit the 11-year-old victim on her chest.

A Denver judge sentenced an illegal immigrant with a history of alcohol abuse to 12 years in prison on Wednesday for driving drunk and slamming into a car driven by a 45-year-old single mother.

I first wrote about illegal alien murder suspect Ingmar Guandique's possible role in the Chandra Levy case in 2002. Justice has been long delayed for the Levy family.

Today, a jury convicted Guandique on all felony counts of first-degree murder.

[Assistant U.S. Attorney Amanda] Haines said Levy's death fits a pattern of two other attacks committed by Guandique on female joggers in Rock Creek park in May and July of 2001. Guandique was convicted in those assaults and is serving a 10-year sentence.

When detectives searched Nelson Garcia Flores's apartment to investigate a rash of burglaries, they found jewelry, cash, electronics, clothing and toys, according to court records.

The judge also pointed out a number of past charges against Suarez, from Caroline County and even Maryland. Those charges were all centered around driving.

An illegal immigrant from Sonora was sentenced to prison this week for assaulting two Border Patrol agents during a foot chase near Nogales in which he was shot.

The bill has already been approved – and vetoed – four times.

But California's Latino Legislative Caucus expects it to become law next year when Gov.-elect Jerry Brown takes office.

In its current form, the bill would let undocumented college students apply for financial aid from a pool of money that is private but administered by state colleges and universities.

But he said he felt the tower was an appropriate response response to the increasing dangers associated with the state's illegal immigration problems, specifically Mexican gang activity.

"My dogs would bark their head off at 2-3 in the morning and I didn't know what they were barking at," he said. "And if I were to go and get my gun and my flashlight to go and find out, I'd be putting myself at a lot of risk."

The crimes are serious; the punishments non-existent.

The victim, Jon, does not want his last name used. He found out he was victimized when he applied for unemployment earlier this year. The office informed him that his social security number was being used by someone working in Bloomington, Indiana.

DETROIT - U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement in Detroit said Tuesday it had levied one of its largest fines - $1 million - against clothing retailer Abercrombie & Fitch for violations of federal immigration law at its Michigan stores.

COLLIER COUNTY — An illegal immigrant charged with killing a 34-year-old pedestrian during a hit and run in Immokalee in December got lucky when an eyewitness disappeared and another was deported before trial.

When Graciela Bolaños of Nogales, Sonora gave birth to her two sons, she did it at Corondelet Holy Cross Hospital in Nogales, Ariz.

Moises Mendez robbed three convenience stores, including one on Loop 494 in southern Montgomery County, and then shot at the store clerk and a Houston police officer. Now the judge who sentenced him for his crimes is being criticized by the law enforcement community for not being tough enough.

SANTA CLARA, Calif.—An illegal immigrant has pleaded guilty to raping a 94-year-old woman in a Northern California nursing home.

In the month after Homeland Security officials started a review of Houston's immigration court docket, immigration judges dismissed more than 200 cases, an increase of more than 700 percent from the prior month, new data shows.

FRIENDSWOOD — An illegal immigrant wanted for a 1993 Travis County murder was arrested in Friendswood last week, Friendswood police said Sunday.

Las Vegas police have arrested a man suspected in the 1998 cold case slaying of two elderly residents in a retirement community.

Gustavo Ramos, 31, was arrested Wednesday in connection with the murders of 86-year-old Helen Sabraw and 75-year-old Wallace Siegel after new DNA tests revealed his blood at the murder scenes.

As Sharron Angle has pointed out, Harry Reid is an illegal immigrant's best friend. His proposal to give illegal immigrants social security benefits from the time they started working in the United States has produced massive anger over the Internet. The group Citizens United Against Criminal Aliens (CUACA), based in Los Angeles, calls Harry Reid a traitor.

Police say the infant suffered from skull fractures and was bleeding in his brain when he was taken to the hospital. The state's Department of Children and Families has now taken legal custody of the baby. Flores is being held on $1,500 cash bail.

Education officials in Georgia voted Wednesday to bar illegal immigrants from attending the state's five most selective public colleges, a decision that immigrant rights groups threatened to challenge in court.

Last May, Princeton Borough and Princeton Township agreed to accept community identification cards issued by the Latin American Legal Defense and Education Fund, a nonprofit organization with an office in Princeton, to people without documented proof of legal immigration. All that is required to receive a card are a passport or consular documents from another country and proof of residency, such as utility bills.

When she turned 17, Maricruz and older sister Marisol decided to leave their family and take the arduous, illegal trek across the border in 1985. Their plan was to work the Oxnard fields and get jobs as house cleaners, then return to the village in a few months.

Instead, the sisters decided to stay in Oxnard, continue working odd jobs and send the money back home to their family.

A Mexican citizen living in Virginia Beach has been sentenced to 20 years in prison for illegally re-entering the United States after being deported following a felony conviction.

Federal immigration officials announced Friday that over the past five days, they have arrested and initiated deportation proceedings against 15 illegal immigrants who had been convicted of sex crimes and were living in Virginia and the District.

Eric Olvera Nieto, 21, allegedly struck the motorcyclist, who was stopped at a red light, in a horrific crash in Menlo Park on Monday, police said.

After two days of unrest in the Westlake area, Beck canceled a Wednesday night appearance in Pacoima and met instead with Westlake District residents angry about Sunday's shooting death of Manuel Jamines, 37.

He asked local residents for "peace on the streets" while the Los Angeles Police Department investigates the shooting.

Beck was shouted down, booed and interrupted several times by angry activists in the crowd of about 300 residents at the forum held not far from where Jamines was killed.

LaRive said about 40 people from the buses got away. He said that although he doesn't have independent knowledge that the people were working on the spill, given that the buses were from Michigan and Hallmark had been a subcontractor, he could "surmise they were the workers" on the spill.

HUNTSVILLE, AL -- Felix Ortega, an illegal immigrant accused of killing two teens is a car crash last year, pleaded guilty this morning to murder.

The former owner of the Sorrento Grocery, who admitted cashing payroll checks for undocumented workers during the construction boom in Lake County, has been sentenced to two years in federal prison.

But anti-illegal-immigration activists say the result of registration drives that target Latinos will invariably lead to fraudulent registration of noncitizens.

"It's probably the intention for some (groups) but an unintended consequence for most," said Rick Oltman, spokesman for Californians for Population Stabilization. "But regardless of their intention, some illegal aliens will be registered."

U.S. Border Patrol agents working in cooperation with local and federal law enforcement agencies identified a new clandestine tunnel Friday under the southbound lane at the DeConcini port of entry.

After the weight of a passenger bus traveling south caused a collapse in the road, officers from Customs and Border Protection's Office of Field Operations responded to the scene and then contacted the Border Patrol to assess the possibility of an illicit tunnel.

An EPIC/MRA poll of 600 likely voters last weekend showed that nearly three-fourths favor the Arizona law and two out of every three state residents would support a similar law being approved by Michigan lawmakers. The poll has a margin of error of plus or minus 4 percentage points.

SALT LAKE CITY — Several civil rights groups are asking Utah Attorney General Mark Shurtleff not to use a now-infamous list of 1,300 alleged illegal immigrants to pursue criminal charges against them.

More than 100 groups made a similar request last month to federal immigration officials. Now, many of them are asking the same of Shurtleff after media reports that he might use "the list" to help prove that some people on it were fraudulently using Social Security numbers.

The 28-year-old University of Houston student was trying not to get her hopes up too much. She had good reason to be optimistic. A week before, the government had terminated her younger sister's deportation proceedings in a separate case. But still, she thought, it might not happen to her.

Immigration enforcement officials have started to cancel the deportations of thousands of immigrants they have detained, a policy they said would pare huge case backlogs in the immigration courts.

All you have done is cause the person, whose identity is stolen, to have to go to enormous challenges to correct improper taxes, identity theft, records, bank issues and more. That so called TAX ILLEGAL ALIENS THINK THEY SHOULD BE GETTING BACK FROM A STOLEN IDENTITY goes into the government’s unclaimed funds pool.

Concerning taxes into the community illegal aliens live? My simple rebuttal is that remittances to Mexico are the country’s 2^nd largest income behind Oil. Buying homes with illegal aliens new anchor babies spanking new social security number is NOT helping the community. That is also called fraud. Those cases are on a serious rise. Once uncovered they cause MAJOR banking issues because “children” cannot sell houses while this recession is happening and here after (They are looking really close now at ANYONE buying or SELLING a home). House goes into banking limbo. It is causing Citizens of the U.S.A. to go into horrible litigation during the purchase of the home from an illegal aliens anchor baby child.

American’s will not do the job that illegal aliens will do.

Yes they will and have for 200+ years. Almost every raid on meat packing plants has legal citizens lined up for jobs just days after. Actually in most cases they end up with to many legal citizens at the plants.

During American history, women lined up at factories to make parts for our American and Allied men to keep the world FREE, during world wars.

There are 250+ million people in the U.S.A.. Let’s just say there are 20 million illegal aliens (no one knows). With these simple numbers, these illegal aliens do not even make up 10 % of the citizens here. Now, the national unemployment rate is what?… OMG almost 10%. I would wager that if all the jobs were now available to legal citizens that do not have a job, which illegal aliens take under the table or fraudulently, that legal citizens would line up, in groves.

We only want a better life.

Many Americans want everyone to have a better life. We urge everyone to immigrate legally. We have laws and procedures to enter America. America is “the” nation of immigrants.

American citizens have created the better life you desire here for over 200 years. Many legal immigrants forefathers died for the American way of life and freedoms that you strongly desire and actually use against us to be here. We urge you to return to your country, and fight for reform in your nation, march down the streets there, tell them you want to be a citizen of your nation. Make your nation better for your children.

You might have to die for it. Many Americans have for over 200 years as a nation. If you want a better life, do it legally. If you do not do it legally, then you are not a candidate for any nations immigration system, no matter how desperate you are. The American way of life demands that you follow the LAW. As soon as anyone cross’s the border illegally, they are clearly announcing that following laws is something they are willing to not do. A better life starts with abiding by laws regardless of nation.

Go After the Americans hiring the Illegal Aliens!

We do, have and still are. Illegal aliens steal identities, or buy them from people who steal them, and then thwart systems such as E-Verify. The employers see the illegal alien as legal citizens. Some citizen of America is now dealing with tax problems, banking issues, passport issues, loan issues, and a multitude of identity theft issues. Once again, illegally crossed the border and illegally obtained false Identification. This fraudulent identification is then used to obtain employment and to thwart and hide from a system designed to HELP EMPLOYERS STOP ILLEGAL ALIENS FROM EMPLOYMENT. These same stolen ID's are used for a plethora of social services also.

CHARLOTTE – An Ecuadorian man accused of raping two children in south Charlotte should not have been in the country, according to Mecklenburg County Sheriff Chipp Bailey.

SUMMERVILLE, S.C. - A town near the South Carolina coast is taking up a proposal that would prevent illegal immigrants from living in the community.

The proposed ordinance goes before the Summerville town council today.
